One of the best ways to manage a migraine headache is to prevent it. Exercise is a good way to ensure that you stay healthy and can prevent problems like migraine headaches. Exercises releases endorphins in the body, which reduces pain. It also helps to manage stress better, which reduces triggers for migraine.
Another way to prevent migraines is to follow a proper sleep schedule – sleep and wake up at the same time every day, and sleep for 7 to 8 hours in a day, not more nor less. Sleeping too much or sleeping too little can lead to throbbing headaches and also reduce your threshold for pain.
One of the best ways to prevent a migraine headache is to practise yoga daily. Not only can yoga help you the way exercise does, in the prevention of headaches, it can also reduce triggers of headaches like anxiety, depression, etc. as it also calms the brain.
Go to a dark, quiet room
If you have a migraine headache, the best thing to do is to go to a quiet and dark room, and relax and lie down, to avoid making it worse. Loud noise, bright lights, commotion, etc. can be triggers of a headache and constant exposure to them can make the headaches worse.
Cool it down
When a migraine hits you, the first thing that you should look for is an ice pack or a cold bottle, that can help you cool it down. For some reason, this works in reducing the pain, and a part of the reason could be that it numbs the parts that are paining, and reduces blood flow to them.
A cup of coffee or some other drink that contains caffeine can help in providing some sort of relief, and also improve the absorption of pain relief drugs in the body. However, make sure you do not consume it too much and become dependent on it, which can lead to problems like fatigue and headaches after withdrawal.
